Implementing Different Investment Strategies for the Same Entity

Using multiple sFOX accounts for the same entity to execute different strategies

Trading firms often implement different strategies within the same investment entity. For reporting and auditing purposes, it can often be wise to separate these strategies from one another and not have them all executing in the same account.

Sub-accounts

At sFOX, an entity can have multiple sub-accounts to implement different strategies. This can be achieved by creating a new account for the business that is identical to the main account, except for the email address. Since sFOX requires each account to have a unique email address, the use of so-called 'alias emails' is encouraged. The majority of email providers allow aliases of existing emails (see example below). Both email addresses will share the same inbox.

Example

Original account: jsmith@TradingEntity.com
Alias account: jsmith+algo1@TradingEntity.com
(Notice the β€˜+’ symbol - any characters beyond this is ignored by email providers)

Verification

Sub-accounts of already existing and verified business accounts don't have to undergo the full verification process again. Only the basic verification steps in the UI need to be completed. This includes the basic business information and information about the business owners. The due diligence questionnaire and company specific documents don't have to be provided again. After the basic verification in the UI is completed, our Client Services team can help getting the sub-account completely verified.

All accounts in one dashboard
Logging in and out of multiple sub-accounts can be a cumbersome process. By using sFOX' SMA feature, all sub-accounts can be added to the main account to access all of them from one UI endpoint. To do this, all sub-accounts need to add the main account as an admin. This can be done by going to 'Manage Users' in the menu of the UI and add the email address of the main account there with 'admin' permissions. This gives the main account full-on access to the newly created sub-account.

Two things that are important here:

  1. Be aware that the invites have to be accepted in the email before the account gets added in the UI

  2. After accepting the invite, the sub-account will be added to the main account. To access any of the linked accounts, or switch between them, one has to click on the dropdown menu that is next to the account name in the upper-right corner.
